Whitelands Academy - Year 6 to 7 Transition
Welcome
We are delighted that you have chosen Whitelands Academy and we very much look forward to welcoming our new Year 7 cohort in September.
At Whitelands Academy, we recognise that the transition from primary to secondary school is both an exciting and, at times, daunting experience for students and parents alike. To support this important step, we have developed a comprehensive transition programme, working closely with our partner primary schools to ensure the process is as smooth and positive as possible.
Transition Days 2nd and 3rd July
During the transition period, we have visited each primary school to meet our new students ahead of September, and will be hosting transition days at Whitelands Academy. These days will provide students with the opportunity to become familiar with the school environment, meet key members of staff, experience elements of our curriculum, and get to know their peers.
We will also be hosting a New Parent Information Evening on Monday 29th June. During this event, we will share key information about uniform, school policies, and expectations, as well as provide an opportunity to answer any questions you may have. A welcome booklet will also be provided, containing further details, including information about the canteen and school lunches.
First Day of School
The first day of term will be 3rd September for Years 7 and 11 only. This will allow our new Year 7 students time to settle in and adjust to the school day before the remaining year groups return on 4th September. On their first day, Year 7 students will also be presented with their new house tie.
Free School Meals
Recent changes to the eligibility criteria for Free School Meals mean that we are now required to review the eligibility of all students. In preparation for September, we kindly ask that you take a moment to read the information provided below and give your consent for us to carry out the necessary checks.
This applies to families who are currently receiving Free School Meals or who are in receipt of Universal Credit.
We understand that you may still have questions, and therefore we have made a range of useful information available on our school website. We encourage you to explore this at your convenience.
