Building a school requires a huge team effort focused on many areas. The site at Whitelands Academy has been rapidly developing over the last two weeks and, if you've seen it recently, you will have noticed that the exterior aspects of the sports hall, drama studio, and hall are almost complete. It is, as you can imagine, quite an impressive sight.
Many years of planning goes into the design and construction of a school. Quite often, the infrastructure is designed around current educational ideologies which are fantastic in the present but not always transferrable to the future. The design at Whitelands very much puts learning and student experience first, with fantastic-sized classrooms, social spaces, and sports facilities. As we design and equip the school, we do so with the end goal in sight — producing academically successful and well-rounded young adults.
A school should prepare its students for their futures. To do this, a broad curriculum offer as well as academic excellence is essential. At Whitelands, our focus will be on every area of education. For example, music will offer multiple practice rooms, a fully equipped recording studio, and a teaching room equipped with keyboards and Apple Macs.
In design technology, students will benefit from bespoke rooms to focus on food technology, graphics, and resistant materials. Equipment such as laser cutters and 3D printers will allow them to understand the design process in true vocational scenarios. Specialist science laboratories will allow students to experience biology, chemistry, and physics in a specific environment. Our art room will be equipped with state-of-the-art cameras and computers to not only develop fine art but also photography. Our drama studio and sports hall will also benefit our students' creativity and enjoyment.
At the core of the school will be maths, English, science, and the humanities. These classes will be delivered by subject experts who will engage and challenge. Together, this curriculum and the building itself will focus on educating the whole child in preparation for their future.
I have been lucky enough to visit the site recently and see these resources being developed. The photograph at the top of this post shows the entrance to the main offices as it was last week.
We have recently invited all of our applicants to arrange a meeting with me in case they have any questions. These meetings can be booked by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org. We will also be sending out invitations to our Whitelands introduction evening on the 12th February over the next week.
As ever, if you have any questions, the Whitelands team can be contacted through the email address above.
